Apple Chutney

This recipe for apple chutney comes from The American Woman's Cook Book by Ruth Berolzheimer (1943).

3 red peppers
3 green peppers
12 tart apples
12 ripe tomatoes, medium size
6 onions, medium size
1 cup diced celery
2 oz crystallized ginger
1 pound seedless raisins
2 qt cider vinegar
3 cups sugar
2 tsp salt

Cut peppers into halves and remove seeds. Pare apples and remove core. Force vegetables, apples, ginger and raisins through a food chopper. Combine all ingredients and cook until chutney is thick and clear, about 1 hour. Fill sterile jars and seal at once. Serve with fish, game, or cold meat. Makes about 4 quarts.

Sew Your Own Dolls

When my teenage daughter was a little one, I would sew dolls for her. I tried out free online patterns and bought books on sewing dolls. While the online patterns were nice, I preferred to use my doll making books for patterns and ideas. Now that I am expecting again, I am anxious to get back into sewing dolls. Here are some of the books I own on doll making:

Gnome Crafts

Gnomes are flipping' awesome. My sweetheart doesn't know it yet, but I plan on getting a gnome for the garden. And when the baby's room is done, I will most certainly make a gnome doll or two for baby's room. In the meantime (as I quietly plan to torture my honey with gnomes), here are some fun gnome crafts and craft books.

Unicorn Posters and Kitchen Items

I admit it. I loved unicorns while growing up. My walls were plastered with unicorn pictures. I collected unicorn stickers. My mom even bought me a unicorn pendant to wear (I still have it in my jewelry drawer). These days, the unicorn posters and stickers are far more awesome than what was available when I was growing up.

Oddly enough, while I was checking out the latest in unicorn posters, I stumbled across some unicorn kitchen items, from candle molds to salt and pepper shakers. Who'd a thunk it?
