With the weather getting cold and winter around the corner, I've been knitting hats for my family like a mad woman. My newest hat is this simple knit, purl, and purl 2 together hat. The pattern is interesting and even fun to work, and, even more important, it is so quick to knit up.
Yarn Used: Medium (4) worsted yarn. I used 1 skein Bernat Worsted color Folklore.
Size 9 (5.5 mm) knitting needles.
Cast on 70. Leave a long tail for sewing up the seam.
Begin with the hat brim:
Row 1: Knit 1, Purl 1 across.
Knit row 1 six times (6 rows total).
Pattern for the body of hat:
Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10: Knit.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 8: Purl.
Row 11: *yo, P 2 tog* across.
Row 12: Knit.
Complete hat body pattern three times. Finish by continuing the stockinette pattern (knit one row, purl one row) until the hat's length is 10 inches long. Bind off and leave a long tail for closing the top of the hat.
Sew Up Seam
Now it's time to put your new hat together. Lay your hat out on a flat surface. Bring the right sides together. The wrong side should be facing you. Pin the side edges together. Make sure the rows are lined up and matching. Starting at the brim, sew up the seam.
Thread the bind off tail and weave the yarn in and out of the last row of the hat. Pull tight and knot to close off the top of your hat. Weave in ends and turn right side out. Your hat is now ready to wear!
