Write a Travel Guide for Your Area

Summer vacation time is almost here and, oh my goodness, it is time to hop in the car and explore this great, fat world of ours.

More than likely you live in or close to an area that travelers would like to visit. There is a rich history in all areas of the world, from a dinky little farm village in Pennsylvania to a ruin-strewn town in Serbia. In other words, it doesn't matter where you are, something has happened there. And YOU can write about it and publish it in an ebook on Kindle.

Things to Include

When writing a travel guide for the area of your choice, you will want to include the following:

  • Hiking or walking trails.
  • Historical sites.
  • Monuments.
  • Things to do.
  • Yearly events.
  • Restaurants.
  • Local shops.
  • Campsites.
  • Hotels / Motels.

Include the History

History is what makes a place interesting to many travelers. Write about the area's history with different wars, local ghost stories and haunts, and the famous people who have lived there. Write about the history behind the monuments and the once thriving industries of the area. High profile murders, although morbid, are also a high curiosity for many.

Add Photographs

Get your camera out and spend the day or a few days photographing local sites. Add the best of these to your ebook.

Write about nearby curiosities. If there is a waterfall over in the next town and it is a quick drive from the location you are writing about it, include it in your book. Give readers other places to go to after they have exhausted all of your recommendations for the area you are writing about.

The fun part about writing travel guides is that it gets you out of the house. You get to learn the local history, things you never knew before, and you will be able to help visitors experience the best places of the area.
